What is Osteopathy?

Osteopaths are nationally registered primary healthcare practitioners under AHPRA.  No referral is required to visit an Osteopath.

Osteopaths complete 5 years of full-time university training in the assessment, diagnosis, management and treatment of many different injuries and musculoskeletal conditions.

Osteopaths utilise a hands-on approach to helping people decrease their pain and increase their mobility.

What to expect in a Treatment/What to Bring

Your treating osteopath will take a detailed history of your complaint and ask about other relevant factors in your health.

To gain an understanding of what may be causing you pain or motion restriction, your osteopath will perform a thorough physical examination including relevant orthopaedic and basic medical examinations.

Treatment of issues generally involves some massage type techniques to the Soft Tissues (muscle, tendon, ligament), and often joint mobilisation or manipulation to the specific joints that are restricted or limiting quality of movement.

Current research suggests that a multi-modal approach (eg: manipulative therapy, exercise and education) provides better outcomes than a single mode approach. Our Osteopaths incorporate a multi-modal approach to treatment, usually with a Hands-On approach being accompanied by rehabilitation exercises, medication review, ergonomic advice and nutritional advice when appropriate.

Bring: copies of previous scan results (if applicable) and loose fitting clothing to allow for ease of movement during your treatment.
